Data Science for Psychology

I taught PSY 410/510 for the first time in spring 2026 to psychology majors and master’s students at the University of Oregon. The course teaches students to work with real psychological data in R: we import and tidy data, transform it with dplyr, build figures with ggplot2, and report results in reproducible Quarto documents. Students also work in teams on weekly challenges and complete a final project in four stages.
Topics include:
- Data visualization with ggplot2, including principles of perception and design
- Data transformation, tidying, and joins
- Exploratory data analysis
- Reproducible reports with Quarto
- Strings, factors, and missing data
- Storytelling with data
- Correlation and regression
